Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is set to fly to space as part of Blue Origin’s upcoming all-female space mission, the “NS-31 Mission.”
The aerospace company, owned by Bezos, has been actively promoting space tourism and is preparing for this historic flight.
The mission will include journalist and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, pop singer Katy Perry, CBS News anchor Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Keri Flynn, and former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe.
The launch is expected to take place between March and June, according to international reports.
Perry shared her excitement about the mission, stating, “I hope this journey inspires many people, including my daughter, and helps fulfill the dreams of those who aspire to reach for the stars.”
Since 2021, Blue Origin has been taking private individuals into space through its New Shepard spacecraft. The company has completed 10 missions, sending 52 people beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Bezos himself traveled to space in 2021 aboard New Shepard.
The NS-31 mission will mark the first all-female spaceflight since 1963, when Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to fly solo in space.
Sánchez, a former journalist, has been in a relationship with Bezos since 2018. The couple got engaged last year. Bezos, previously married to MacKenzie Scott for 25 years, finalized his divorce in 2019.
